Brotherhood

Schaarai Zedek Brotherhood is a men’s organization dedicated to friendship, service, and Jewish community life. We create opportunities for men to connect through study, worship, volunteerism, and shared experiences.

Brotherhood is a welcoming way to get involved at Congregation Schaarai Zedek. Our members explore contemporary issues, support synagogue programs, and strengthen our congregational community in a spirit of camaraderie and fun.

What We Do

Brotherhood sponsors a wide variety of activities throughout the year, including:

  • Sunday Morning Bagels and Schmooze
  • Social and recreational gatherings
  • Adult learning and guest speakers
  • Support for Religious School and youth programs
  • Special charitable projects
  • Joint events with other local Brotherhood organizations

Brotherhood members also coordinate ushers for Shabbat and High Holy Days services.

Paths to Community

Brotherhood focuses its time and resources in four key areas:

  • Social – Creating opportunities to build friendships and community among men and their families.
  • Intellectual – Programming that reflects the interests and experiences of Jewish men in today’s world.
  • Spiritual – Offering moments of meaning rooted in Jewish tradition and contemporary approaches to spirituality.
  • Service – Encouraging acts of g’milut hasadim (kindness) and tikkun olam (repairing the world) through support of our congregation, local community, and beyond.

How We Support Our Community

Brotherhood is a not-for-profit volunteer organization. Our programs operate on a break-even basis and are supported through membership dues and fundraising efforts. The more members we have, the more we can give back to our congregation and community.

Get Involved

Meeting times and locations vary. We gather on Sunday mornings, Tuesday evenings at the Temple, and occasionally at local restaurants. Visitors and new members are always welcome.

If you would like to attend a Brotherhood Board meeting, please contact the office to confirm a date. Board participation is a wonderful way to share your voice and help shape Brotherhood programming.
